The family Sparidae, known as "porgies" or "sea bream" are carnivorous, feeding on bottom-dwelling invertebrates. They are deep-bodied, with a single long dorsal fin and forked tail. They are known as excellent eating fish, and both South Australian species are targeted by recreational and commercial anglers.
