Australian Salmons

The family Arripidae consists of a single genus - Arripis. Of these torpedo-shaped, silvery species, two are known from South Australian waters; the Australian Herring or "Tommy Ruff" and the Western Australian Salmon or "Salmon Trout". It is also thought that some Eastern Australian Salmon (A. trutta) have also made their way to SA, although they cannot be distinguished from their western cousins without close examination
