Anglerfishes (Family Antennariidae)

The anglerfishes, or frogfishes, are highly camouflaged ambush predators that are usually found on the sea floor. They are stocky and poor swimmers, often "walking" on the sea floor with modified pelvic fins. Most, but not all species have an appendage on their head, resembling a worm or other common prey species. They use this to lure in prey, which they consume whole with a lightning fast strike.
