This distinctive barnacle has eight main plates, with rows of increasingly smaller and more numerous plates below. It is large, around 30mm, and found in rocky locations with moderate to high wave action. It can resemble eroded barnacles of the family Tetraclitidae, but on close examination, those barnacles do not have the rows of smaller plates, but instead have the interal tube structure of its plates exposed.
