This colonial ascidian consists of stalked zooids connected by a basal test. It has a transparent body, with four blue pigment spots around the siphons, including a row of three between the siphons, which is diagnostic and distinguishes it from Clavelina cylindrica, along with its more spherical clusters. Found mostly on jetty piles and other artificial structures, it is widespread throughout the tropical and temparate Indo-Pacific.
