This globular, transparent solitary ascidian can be found on and under rocks. Its colouration can vary, from transparent with orange siphons, as indicated by its common name, to all translucent orange or entirely transparent. It can be identified by the simple curved gut loop visible through the test, and the small wart-like siphons. It is found in cold to temperate waters throughout the southern hemisphere and is also found in Europe, where it is a pest species.
