A common sight on South Australia's rocky reefs, particularly in areas where there is abundant algae or sea grasses, this large elongate morwong is slow-moving, and wary around divers. It is a silvery colour, with a pattern of greenish brown patches and spots, which are prominent in juveniles, but fade to gold spots in adults. Like other morwong species, this fish has a deeply forked tail, long dorsal fin and thick lips. At close range, it is not easily confused with other species.
