Size: Colony 4cm long, excluding stalk

Distribution: All SA coastal and gulf waters

Habitat: Rocky reef on rock walls

Depth: Subtidal to 10+ metres

This ascidian forms single conical or cylindrical colonies on a short stalk. Its appearance can vary greatly, and colonies can be orange, purple, yellow or whiteish. However, it can be identified relatively easily by the fact that individual zooids are not visible under the mostly opaque test, unlike the superficially similar Botrylloides species, and the larger cloacal apertures that are scattered liberally throughout the colony surface.
