Patelloida insignis - Maltese Cross Limpet

Often heavily encrusted, this limpet is known for the markings on its shell, which resemble the Maltese Cross, although these are commonly eroded away. They can be found on rocks in the intertidal zone. Although they are uncommonly encountered, they may be more abundant that it appears due to difficulties in identifying eroded or overgrown individuals.
