Stomozoa australiensis is an orange or white colonial asicidan, with zooids visible under a transparent test. The colouration comes from the zooid itself, particularly around the siphons. Although they are completely embedded in a common test, the zooids resemble Clavelina, although the colony is easily mistaken for Polycitor giganteus which differs by having bands of colour only around the siphons.
