Upeneichthys vlamingii - Bluespotted Goatfish (Family Mullidae)

The Bluespotted Goatfish, also known locally as the Red Mullet, is the only species of Goatfish found in SA waters. Its colouration can be variable, but it is usually white with a single horizontal black stripe, or a reddish colour. It gets its common name for the rows of neon blue spots on its body. It is usually found foraging for food in the sandy seabed, where it uses its mouth barbels to detect the vibrations made by worms and other invertebrates.
