Acanthopagrus butcheri - Black Bream

Commonly found in the shallows, or in estuarine waters, this deep-bodied species is a silvery colour, often with a copper sheen. It has a large mouth, set low on the head, with a short rounded snout. As a member of the Sparidae family, it bears similarities to the Australian Snapper (Chrysophrys auratus), but can be distinguished by its darker colouration, and the lack of blue spots on its body.
