This bottom-dwelling fish is recognisable by its bizarre appearance. It has a high dorsal fin with venomous spines that can inflict painful injuries. It can be distinguished by its narrow head, with four prominent ridges or crests, and a large eye with a red and white striped iris. It has a variable mottled pattern in whites, browns and reds.
