Distribution: SA coastal and gulf waters east of Port Lincoln
Habitat: Rocky reef or sandy bottoms
Depth: Subtidal to 10+ metres
This large, stalked solitary ascidian is usually found in clusters. It is brightly-coloured, due to the prescence of an encrusting sponge (Halisarca australis), which always grows on this species and can be pink, orange, or yellow. It has a conspicuously warty surface, which distinguishes it from other stalked ascidians such as Pyura gibbosa. This species is uncommon in South Australia, but is abundant in New South Wales.
