This high-keeled chiton is usually a green to brownish-green in colour, with large pearly girdle scales. Found under rocks or shells, it can be distinguished by the dark stripes in the pleural area of the valves, the relatively smooth and unmarked lateral areas, and the faint radial lines or ribbing on the end valves. This differs from some similar species of Rhyssoplax, such as R. torriana, which has concentric markings on the end valves.
