This carpet shark is brown in colour, with black spots on the fins and body. It has rows of warty protuberances on the back, and dermal lobes on the head, which are unbranched, unlike other wobbegong species. It is more slender than other species of wobbegong found in SA, both in the genus Orectolobus, and is darker in overall colour.
