Size: 11 cm

Distribution: All SA coastal and gulf waters

Habitat: Sandy areas

Depth: Shallow subtidal to 10+ metres

This distinctive goby is variable in colour, ranging from tan to dark brown, with or without darker patches. Its flat, sqaurish head is particular to Callogobius, but the horizontal and vertical raised ridges on its head give this species its common name and a way to easily differentiate it from other similar species.
