Distribution: All SA coastal and gulf waters

Habitat: Sandy and rocky substrate. Occasionally epiphytic on seagrass

Depth: Lower intertidal and shallow subtidal

Scytosiphon lomentaria

This common brown algae is most recognisable in cooler conditions (June to November), when it consists of thin strands up to about 30 cm high, often covered in epiphytic growth. In the summer months, it is encountered as a flat, encrusting organism to about 5 cm in diameter.
