Jania verrucosa
Jania verrucosa

This coralline algae is usually found in the intertidal zone, where it grows on rocky surfaces. It is pink in colour, fading to whitish in some specimens. It has long thin fronds, which split dichotomously along their length. The smoothness of these frond helps distinguish this species from other Jania in SA, many of which have a more spiny appearance.
