Cladophora prolifera
Cladophora prolifera

A dark green, densly-tufting algae, this species can be found on rocky reef or as an epiphyte on seagrass. The dense tufts are due to the branching pattern, with branches occuring on virtually every cell. The cells themselves are thick and rather rigid and taper towards the base. Although difficult to distinguish from other tufting green algae, the cell appearance and branching pattern make this easy to identify with experience.
