Leatherjackets (Family Monacanthidae) are a family of tetraodontiform fishes related to puffers and the tropical triggerfish. They are distinguished by their small, rough scales and the large spine on their head, which can be locked upright by a second small spine. Many species are sexually dimorphic, with females and males having different colouration and patterns.
