This mostly freshwater snail can tolerate some salinity and is occasionally found in estuarine environments. It has been introduced from New Zealand, and is now considered a pest species in many areas around the world. It is usually a brown colour but can vary from dark to light. It is very difficult to distinguish from other similar estuarine snails, and expert examination is recommended.
