Chitons

Chitons (class Polyplacophora) are a type of mollusc with a shell made up of overlapping valves. These valves provide protection while being flexible enough for the chiton to move over uneven surfaces, or curl up into a ball if dislodged. The valves are surrounded by a fleshy girdle. Underneath, the chiton has a long foot like a snail's, with the mouth positioned at one end.
